Iron River Welcomes Home Olympic Champion Nick Baumgartner
On Wednesday, February 25, the Iron River community will proudly welcome home hometown Olympian Nick Baumgartner following his recent competition at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
A 2022 Olympic Gold Medalist, Nick once again represented Team USA on the world stage this year. While he did not medal in 2026, his determination, longevity in the sport, and unwavering pride in representing Iron River continue to inspire the entire Upper Peninsula.
Nick made history at the 2022 Winter Olympics, capturing gold and cementing his legacy as one of Iron River’s most accomplished athletes. His return home is more than a celebration of medals — it’s a celebration of hard work, resilience, and the character that defines his career.
Student Pep Assembly – West Iron County High School
West Iron County Schools will host a student-only pep assembly from 2:00 PM – 2:45 PM at West Iron County High School. In true hometown fashion, Nick will be escorted from Stambaugh Hill to the school by local law enforcement and the fire department in a celebratory procession honoring his Olympic journey.
Community Celebration – Open to the Public
The celebration continues at 3:30 PM with a public welcome event at Riverside Pizza. Community members are invited to stop by, congratulate Nick, take photos, and receive autographs as Iron River comes together to show its appreciation and pride.
This public celebration is made possible thanks to the support of local partners, including Krist Oil Company and Ponsse, along with the collaboration of local first responders, school officials, and the City of Iron River.
Iron River has always stood behind its own. On February 25, the community will once again prove that Olympic pride runs deep here at home.
